Hello Flower Island · Privacy
Your garden, your data.
Last updated: October 11, 2026
This policy explains how FIGPDX handles information when you use Hello Flower Island. Some features are optional and only process information when you use them.
Information you provide
If you choose to create or sign in to an account, Firebase Authentication processes your email address and password and assigns an account identifier. The app uses that identifier to associate your account with its saved garden and Community activity. Firebase handles password resets; your password is not included in your garden profile or Community feed.
Your garden can include collected flower varieties, cultivation selections, discovery dates, journal entries, and garden plot selections. You can keep using the garden on your device. If you sign in, the app syncs a garden snapshot to Cloud Firestore so it can be restored across sessions or devices.
Optional Community features
If you enable Community features, the app may process your chosen nickname and flower avatar, Community setting, time zone identifier, garden-size count, directory entry, friend requests, accepted-friend or blocked-user relationships, and Community activity.
When you share a flower discovery, friends can see the flower species, colors and pattern, your chosen nickname and flower avatar, and when you found it. Friends may also see flower-related reactions and Wish Well activity. Your full private garden collection is not exposed through the garden-size count. Your email address and account sign-in details are not shown or shared with friends.
Hello Flower Island has no chat, private messages, or other direct messaging tools. Friend sharing is limited to the flower-related Community features described here; the app does not provide a way to exchange email addresses or other contact details.
Community sharing is optional. You can use the app’s available controls to search for gardeners, manage friend requests, remove or block friends, and disable Community sharing.
Diagnostics and Firebase
The Firebase Apple SDK may send Firebase SDK usage and diagnostic information to Google to help maintain and improve Firebase services. Depending on the Firebase components included and enabled in the app, this may include SDK and app version information and limited service performance metadata. We do not use this information for advertising. See Firebase’s SDK diagnostics FAQ and Firebase’s Apple data collection guide.
Hello Flower Island uses Google Firebase services, including Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, and Cloud Functions for some Community actions. Google processes information as a service provider to operate these features and its infrastructure. You can also read Google’s Privacy Policy.
How information is used
Information is used to provide account sign-in, save and restore your garden, support Community features you choose to use, and diagnose errors so we can fix bugs. Information is shared with the Firebase services needed to provide those features and, when you use Community sharing, with the friends or other gardeners the feature is designed to reach.
Storage, retention, and deletion
Garden information is stored on your device and, when you sign in, a garden snapshot is synced to Cloud Firestore. Account and Community information is processed by the Firebase services that provide those features. Retention can depend on the data and feature; specific retention periods are not stated here.
You can request deletion in the app by going to Profile → Settings → Delete Account and confirming your request. This deletes your Firebase Authentication account and associated personal data, including your account profile, Community profile and nickname listing, friend and block relationships, friend requests, shared flower feed entries, reactions, and sent or received wishes, except for information we are legally required to retain. Deletion also removes cloud-synced garden data associated with your account. Garden data stored only on your device may remain until you delete the app or clear its data.
For help with a deletion request or to ask about your information, email julian@figpdx.com. See account deletion information.
Beta invitations
If you request access to the Hello Flower Island beta, we collect your email address and record your consent so we can manage your request and email you about beta invitations and related Hello Flower Island updates. This information is stored in Firebase. Beta signup does not subscribe you to the FIGPDX Journal, Loomer, or other project mailing lists. We do not sell beta signup email addresses.
You can withdraw consent or request removal at any time by emailing julian@figpdx.com. You may also reply “unsubscribe” to a beta email. We’ll remove your address from the beta list.
Children’s privacy
Hello Flower Island is designed to be suitable for children and families. Creating an account is optional. If a child creates an account, Firebase Authentication uses the email address for sign-in; the email address and other account contact details are not shown to friends.
Community features are optional. If a child uses them, their chosen nickname may appear in the in-app gardener directory and in friend requests. When they share a flower discovery, accepted friends can see the flower information, chosen nickname, flower avatar, and related friend activity described above. The app has no chat, private messages, or open-ended messaging, and it does not provide a way to exchange email addresses or other contact details.
A parent or guardian with questions about a child’s information can email julian@figpdx.com with “Child Privacy” in the subject line. Account deletion can be requested in the app under Profile → Settings → Delete Account; see account deletion information.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy when the app or its data practices change. For privacy questions, contact julian@figpdx.com.
